The textile industry could be part of the prestigious Indian Army project as it is eager to provide new and better quality uniforms to Indian soldiers.

Master General Sustenance (MGS), a wing of the Indian Army responsible for procuring necessary supplies to the Indian Army, is about to invite tenders for the purchase of a comb robe improved (digital camouflage pattern).

A meeting of various industry stakeholders also took place in this regard.

Eligibility criteria, it seems, include the ability to manufacture nearly 3,00,000 sets of uniforms every month, also including the ability to spin, weave, wet process, dye, d printing and manufacturing under one roof or a TPS/PAN no .

The procurement process for the new and improved combat uniform is expected to begin, and the tender is being finalized.

The contract quantity is expected to be around 1.1 lakh at a value of around Rs. 300 crores.

The new uniform was designed with comfort, ergonomics and superior troop appearance in mind and has better fabric than the old version. It has a blend of 80:20 polyester, cotton ripstop and the digital camo is vat dyed for long life and long lasting color fastness.

The fabric is 190 GSM which makes it lighter and more breathable.

The new combat outfit was unveiled six months ago and consists of a combat jacket (upper tunic), combat pants and an FS cap. The project was brought to fruition by outsourcing design and development through NIFT.
