Buzdar launches program for victims of acid attacks – Pakistan
LAHORE: The Punjab Social Protection Authority under the Punjab Ehsaas program launched “Nai Zindagi” and “Punjab Human Capital Investment Project” at a cost of 53.25 billion rupees.
Presiding over the launching ceremony, Chief Minister Usman Bazdar said both projects were of great importance. He said the Punjab Ehsaas program was the first step towards realizing the dream of “Riyasat-i-Madinah”.
Under the “Nai Zindagi” program, the chief minister said, treatment facilities would be provided for men and women suffering from acid attack in addition to the rehabilitation of such patients.
He stressed that the social rights of victims of acid attacks should be safeguarded in addition to providing them with dignified life opportunities.
“The government of Punjab will bear the entire cost of treating the acid victims,” he said.
Mr Buzdar said state-of-the-art burn treatment units have been installed at Jinnah Hospital and Mayo Hospital in Lahore, Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur, Nishtar Hospital in Multan , Allied Hospital in Faisalabad and Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi.
He said interest-free loans for skills training and self-employment would be given to those affected. Initially, he said, 200 million rupees had been allocated to the Nai Zindagi program.
