British cat Deeley takes to design with help from Winser London – WWD
LONDON – Winser London added another celebrity to their wall of fame, collaborating with British TV personality Cat Deeley on a capsule collection of chunky knits.
The collection, Knit by Cat Deeley for Winser London, marks the celebrity’s first foray into womenswear design and will launch this month at winserlondon.com.
The collection includes three hand-finished styles knitted from Geelong wool yarn, made in Scotland.
The color scheme includes soft chalk neutrals with flashes of pinks, grays, blue and black. Styles include a wide-neck zipped pattern sweater, midi length patterned poncho and chunky zipper pattern cardigan with soft collar.
Prices range from 350 pounds for the sweater to 850 pounds for the cardigan.
Kim Winser, a UK retail veteran and founder and managing director of Winser London, said she liked Deeley’s personal style and it aligned with the brand’s ethos. “Successful, confident and stylish women of all walks of life are at the heart of everything we do,” she said.
Winser added that Deeley, a longtime TV actress and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ host, designed the knits “with her signature flair.” Having recently moved to the UK with her family from Los Angeles, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to co-create a range inspired by her personal style.
Winser said the collection was produced at a small independent factory, Teviots in Hawick, in the south of Scotland. “As a brand, we always want to support quality local businesses.” The designs are hand-knitted with Scottish yarns from the luxury Scottish manufacturer Todd and Duncan.
Deeley said she partnered with Winser London because “I’ve always been obsessed with clothes and the way they make you feel, how they help you feel good and how warm it is. and comfortable can make a physical difference to your mood. ”
She said she collects knitwear, vintage and new, and has a “vast collection” of pieces.
“I was very keen to have my own brand, so when Kim approached me, I decided to incorporate everything I loved about color and threads into my tiny capsule collection under my own brand Knit. I loved creating it and am so happy that we were able to have these pieces made in Britain and most importantly from British wool.
Winser founded his contemporary direct-to-consumer label in 2013 and is formerly CEO of Pringle of Scotland and Aquascutum. The main collection of Winser London includes dresses, outerwear and garments in silk, merino wool and cashmere.
Over the years, Winser has developed a habit of collaborating with actresses and other celebrities, including Gillian Anderson and Yasmin Le Bon.
In early 2020, ahead of the lockdown and to nod to International Women’s Day, Winser asked well-known names to take selfies with her recycled cashmere ponchos.
Actress and Bond girl Rosamund Pike, singer KT Tunstall and members of Sister Sledge are among those to oblige.
Winser London ponchos are recycled in Italy from old sweaters or other cashmere pieces, which are first collected and broken down by color. The items used are then cut into small pieces and combed into fibers before being spun into new knits.
Having previously done much of his work outside of Asia, Winser London has gradually moved his operations closer to home in an effort to work more sustainably.
Its tweed jackets, coats, skirts and dresses are designed and sewn in London from British wool-blend tweed. The company calls these pieces “slow fashion”, encouraging customers to think of quality, not quantity.
