Union Minister of Textiles and Chief Minister of Haryana inaugurates NIFT’s Panchkula Campus

The new campus of the National Institute of Fashion Technology in Panchkula was inaugurated today by Sh. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumption, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, and Sh. Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana.

During his speech after the inauguration, Sh. Piyush Goyal applauded the efforts of various teams, the Department of Architecture, NIFT, Haryana Technical Education and other departments, who had worked on the planning and the construction of this campus. Speaking from his roots in Haryana, the Minister applauded the efforts of Sh. Manohar Lal. The Chief Minister of Haryana made this campus possible. Shri Goyal has revised the mantra of 5 F’s for the fashion industry which are fiber farms to foreign export fashionable fabric to make India’s textile industry a strong name in the world .

Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal has thanked former Textiles Minister Smt. Smriti Irani and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for their guidance and support throughout the planning and establishment of the center. He said the center building was outstanding and asked the central government to grant additional funds to build an amphitheater and an auditorium for the center. He also welcomed students from all over the country to Haryana.

Sh. Gian Chand Gupta, Hon’ble President, Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Sh. Rattan Lal Kataria, Hon’ble MP, Ambala and Sh. Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Minister of Education of Haryana were also present on the occasion.

The event began with the inauguration of the campus with the unveiling of a plaque and the cutting of the ribbon by dignitaries. This was followed by a campus tour and planting of saplings on campus lawns.

NIFT Panchkula, established in 2019 with CE (continuing education) programs, is the youngest and is growing rapidly at its own pace. Its first batch of graduate students (Masters in Fashion Management) joined the campus in 2020. The center was ranked 13th in fashion education in the country in a study conducted by Outlook, India in 2022. NIFT Panchkula offers four Undergraduate Programs in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Communication and Fashion Technology, and two Postgraduate Programs in Design Space and Fashion Management.

The campus has been operating since 2019 in the premises of the Government Polytechnic of Sector 26, Panchkula. During its early years, NIFT Panchkula faced the greatest challenge of accommodating online students. Now that the pandemic phase is over, the NIFT is preparing to welcome its students in a well-equipped building with various laboratories in the departments on a green campus with a backdrop of Morni Hills. The center also offers a state domicile for the admission of students from Haryana state. Various Government of India programs also offer financial support to deserving students. The premises also has a fully equipped 108-seat girls hostel, keeping student safety and convenience in mind, which will be open from the next session in August 2022. The program and faculty are dedicated improving indigenous craftsmanship. and the welfare of artisans through various programs implemented by the guidelines of the Bureau of Handweaving and Handicrafts of the Ministry of Textiles and the Government of India.

The first postgraduate group of 33 Master of Fashion Management students graduated in 2022 and were successfully placed in companies such as Tata Trent, Reliance Brands, Landmark Group, Shoppers Stop, Grasim, etc.

NIFT is the pioneer fashion education institute in the country and has been at the forefront of providing professional human resources to the textile and apparel industry. It became a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of Parliament of India with the President of India as “visitor” and has 17 fully fledged campuses across the country. He has a vision to provide a learning experience of the highest fashion standards; regarding design, technology and management. The student body is exposed to traditional textiles and handicrafts of India for inspiration while focusing on emerging global trends relevant to the industry.
